Student Housing on Cambridgelaan in Utrecht Shines Again – Safer, More Sustainable, and More Beautiful Than Ever
Original Design and Renovation
The original design of the building dates back to the 1990s and was created by the renowned architectural firm Rudy Uytenhaak. Since then, the building on Cambridgelaan has earned an important place within student housing in Utrecht, providing shelter to hundreds of students for decades. After years of intensive use, a thorough renovation was necessary, with a focus on improving the fire safety of the facade.
The renovation was made possible thanks to close cooperation between various parties. The construction was carried out by Roza Vastgoedonderhoud bv, with the facade cladding installation done by Pruyssen Daken en Gevels from Waardhuizen. Our partner Vink Kunststoffen from Didam supplied the necessary materials for the installation – an essential link in the logistical process.
The facade panels were installed using the Steni FS-200 system in a shiplap pattern. This mounting method—where panels overlap—provides not only a characteristic facade appearance but also excellent functional benefits in terms of water drainage, ventilation, and durability.
For the building owner SSH, sustainability played an important role in the choice of materials. The Steni Nature panels are produced with an exceptionally low CO₂ footprint, perfectly aligning with the organization’s sustainability ambitions. Moreover, the panels are low-maintenance and come with a warranty of no less than 60 years – an investment in the future both aesthetically and functionally.
We look back with pride on our contribution to the large-scale renovation of the student housing on Cambridgelaan in Utrecht, commissioned by SSH. We supplied approximately 6,500 square meters of Steni Nature facade cladding – a sustainable and aesthetically high-quality solution that perfectly matches the renewed appearance of the complex.
