What has been beautifully made, must remain beautiful
Lansingerland Police Station: a model of sustainable architecture since 2011
In Lansingerland, a building has stood since 2011 that demonstrates how architecture and material choices can go hand in hand to achieve a lasting and beautiful result. The police station, designed by MATH Architects, has been a recognizable and representative landmark in the area for over ten years. What stands out immediately: it still looks as if it was completed just yesterday.
This is thanks in part to the Steni Nature façade cladding, which gives the building its distinctive appearance – and retains that look year after year.
Sustainability in both aesthetics and technology
The design by MATH Architects is clear and powerful, with great attention to composition, rhythm, and materials. The choice of Steni Nature façade panels with a natural stone aggregate finish has proven to be crucial – not only for their aesthetic qualities but also for their smart technical application.
What’s special is that the design uses two different sizes of Italian marble aggregate, in the Verdi Alpi color. This subtle variation creates a playful character in the color tone, making the façade come alive and respond to light and viewing distance. It adds depth to the building without creating a busy or overwhelming image.
The panels are screw-mounted, with the screw heads visually disappearing into the surface. As a result, the façade appears to be seamlessly mounted, while maintaining a calm and uniform look. At the same time, the system is easy to disassemble, which is beneficial for maintenance, replacement, or reuse.
At the building’s corners, fixed form elements without open joints were used. This detailing enhances the visual calmness of the design and gives the façade a solid, high-quality appearance – as if the building were constructed from a single piece. It contributes to both the robustness and architectural strength of the whole.
