Primary School The Ark

In a residential area in Schagen, surrounded by water and greenery, lies the beautiful location for this new school by the Stichting Kopwerk and Kappio for children aged 0 to 12. The building combines a primary school, daycare, and after-school care. Circular economy is a central theme in this project.

The slogan of De Ark is: "Sustainable and meaningful education for happy and curious global citizens." By sustainability, they mean that students learn to consider the future, the world around them, and each other. The building will have a pavilion-like layout, where the learning plaza, along with the outdoor learning space, forms the heart of the school.

This outdoor learning space, designed to encourage children to explore and discover on their own, is directly connected to the central learning plaza in the school and the park. This literally makes it a connecting link between indoor and outdoor spaces. The outdoor learning space sets De Nieuwe Ark apart from other schools. In the new building, indoor and outdoor areas are connected in multiple places by using a lot of glass, providing a beautiful view of the pond and the green surroundings.
